Art as Worship – an opportunity to worship God through creativity. Every Art as Worship gathering provides an environment where participants can express their faith through art. Worship is typically built around words – saying them and hearing them – but sometimes words are not adequate. In a world of texting, Facebook posts and tweets we can find ourselves weary of articulating with words. Art as Worship provides a sacred space for people to praise and worship through the creation of art. The gatherings are not an art class – they are a faith experience. You do not have to be an artist or have any experience with arts or crafts; all you need is a willingness to open yourself up to allowing your faith to be expressed in new ways. Inspiration is provided but not instruction.
Each Art as Worship gathering will feature a particular medium (e.g. colored pencils, watercolors, clay, etc.) with materials being provided. The gatherings will begin with a time of scripture, reflection and prayer followed by a time of creativity and will close with an opportunity for sharing. The Rev. Nancy Day-Achauer and professional craft artist Chrissy Bell (The Pink Woobie) lead the gatherings. There are no fees to participate; however, donations are requested to cover costs.
Art as Worship premiers Saturday, January 30 at 10:30 am using the medium of colored pencils. The event takes place at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 5200 Sullivant Ave, Columbus, OH 43228 (near Hilliard-Rome Rd) 614-878-6520. Reservations are requested but not required.
