I am sitting in my favorite coffee shop enjoying an ice latte. This is usually an award to myself for getting something done, or motivation for getting something done. Today it’s really both!
For the past 11 days I have sat down at my spinning wheel to make yarn. I have a very hard time doing anything on a daily basis, so this is a pretty large accomplishment. Yesterday was a rest day, but I had just purchased new beautiful fiber and HAD to spin.
The Tour de Fleece has been an exercise in quality over quantity, as well as pacing myself so I can continue the journey. I have no idea of my yardage, but plan on counting before the tour is over. I will be heading on vacation and taking my drop spindle with me at the end of the week. I hope to visit a yarn store or two while I am away.
The other thing I wanted to write about is the Ohio State Fair. I have just survived the post office where I mailed my entries for this years Creative Arts competitions. I am entering two items into the spinning category. One is a beautiful sport weight yarn that I spun with black un-dyed Finnish wool. The second is a hat I crocheted from a gray worsted weight 2-ply yarn that I spun in the spring. The wool used for this was also Finnish.
I bought 5 pounds of Finnish wool recently, so have been spinning it almost exclusively. It’s soft with a great luster and beautiful natural color, I really enjoy everything about this fiber which comes from Finnsheep, originating in Finland. You can read more about them at the website for American Finnsheep Breeders’ Association.
The collages I used today in my blog post are from my Instagram account. So if you have one you should follow me over there for more awesome pictures and updates.
